Intimacy Rules and Guidelines
Students and Faculty Guide
At the Paramount Soundstage we strive for a safe and accessible environment for students and
faculty to create in. Sometimes those creative expressions can involve nudity or simulated sex,
and other physical expressions. To ensure that all members of the process know the rules and
their rights during these vulnerable moments, we have compiled a list of rules and expectations
to be followed. Failure to comply, disclose, or abuse the role on set could result in an expulsion
from the stage and if malicious or severe enough Academic Conduct charges levied.
Pre-Production
- The production must disclose and seek permission for any sort of nudity, simulated
nudity, and intimacy -romantic or otherwise, before the start of production. It will be at the
discretion of the soundstage management on whether the scenes are allowed to be
filmed on the soundstage.
- This must be followed up with a SOF request form that outlines the nudity or intimacy
and all appropriate parties must sign off for approval.
- All of the details of the intimate acts (i.e. Nudity, simulated sex, foreplay, kissing, etc.) are
to be discussed and put into agreement with the actors, the director, and the producer
before stepping on the stage.
- An intimacy coordinator should be included, if possible, as a crew member during the
pre-production, and the production phase. They should meet and work with the actors
and the director to negotiate the terms of the scenes that require intimacy. The intimacy
coordinator needs to understand that they are working for the actors; advocating for their
needs, communicating their comfort levels, negotiating intimacy, and keeping them safe.
Intimacy coordinators should be present for the production days.
Production
- When the agreed upon intimate scene is scheduled to take place, it is the responsibility
of the production/AD to inform the Soundstage Staff so that they can take the proper
measures to insure modesty barriers are in place, as well as proper signage to make the
stage a “Closed Set” during the scenes production.
- The intimacy coordinator is responsible to ensure those modesty barriers are proper, that
there are safeguards in place for the actors comfort, and that they can answer any
questions for the director about any changes that are to be made to change the blocking
and framing of the scenes.
