Crew Requirements and Soundstage Safety Training
The following CREW MEMBERS must be in place at least 2 weeks before start of production:
- Director
- Assistant Director
- DP
- Gaffer
- Key Grip
- Production Designer
- Production cannot start if these positions are vacant, resulting in the forfeiture of any reserved dates. So it is important to keep an open communication with soundstage management about crewing needs.
- All Crew Positions must complete the Canvas Soundstage Introductory Training Course to work on the Soundstage. These are Introductory Video Course to have everyone on set be familiar with the Soundstage, and the Rules and Guidelines of the Studio.
- A minimum of Three of the Key Technical Positions must be staffed by Soundstage Safety Technically Trained Members. Usually it is the Cinematographer (aka DP), the Gaffer, and the Key Grip. We welcome all crew members to get Soundstage Safety Trained. The more people working on the same page, the faster and safer production can move.
- An Appropriate number of additional crew members to safely handle production must be in place 1 week prior to production dates (to be determined in consultation with the Soundstage Manager and faculty).
- If a production is hiring Key Technical Crew outside of the Emerson student body they are Not Permitted to use the lift, 12-step Ladders, or to rig anything from the truss, due to Emerson College Insurance Policies. The Production is still required to have at least 3 Soundstage Technical Safety Trained Crew Members who have attended and completed the Soundstage Safety Training to work on the Soundstage. Hired "Professionals" do not supersede the soundstage safety policies.
SOUNDSTAGE SAFETY TECHNICAL TRAINING
- SOUNDSTAGE SAFETY TECHNICAL TRAINING is an In-Person Training with a particular focus on safety. This prepares Students for Electrical Safety, Rigging Safety, and Ladder Safety. This in person Training is Required for Key Technical Crew Members of any Production using the Soundstage. The workshop runs approximately 3 hours. All Basic Cinematography classes will dedicate one class session to this Safety Training.
- For students not in a Cinematography class, OPEN SOUNDSTAGE SAFETY TECHNICAL TRAININGS will be held during the semester. Reservations for open workshops must be made at least 48 hours in advance. The dates and times of the workshops will be posted on our Soundstage Safety Training Page. It is possible, if there is time on the stage and enough students are interested, to arrange other Training sessions. Please contact the soundstage manager if you are interested in pursuing this.
