Find MAC Address or IP Address for Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android

To troubleshoot network issues, we sometimes need the network device's unique identifiers: a MAC address and an IP address.

  • MAC Address: A permanent, unique identifier for your device's network hardware. It looks like this: a1:b2:33:45:cd:6e. Sometimes referred to as "hardware address", "physical address", or "Ethernet address."
  • IP Address: An address assigned by the network that allows your device to communicate with other devices and the internet. It looks like this: 10.10.1.100

How to Find MAC and IP Address on macOS (Apple computer)

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and click System Settings.
  2. From the sidebar, click Network.
  3. Choose the network you are troubleshooting from the list (e.g., Wi-Fi or Ethernet), and then click the Details... button.

NOTE: If you are getting a MAC address to register your device, be sure to select either the Wi-Fi or the Ethernet connection, depending on how you plan to connect to the network. For example, to register your device to the wired network, you must select 'Ethernet' and get the MAC address from that connection. For more information on registering devices, see our Connecting Entertainment Devices article.

  4. In the pop-up window, the IP address will be displayed on the TCP/IP tab.
  5. To find the MAC address, click the Hardware tab. Your MAC address will be displayed there.

How to Find MAC and IP Address on a Windows PC

  1. Type cmd into your Windows search bar and open Command Prompt.
  2. Type or paste the command ipconfig /all into the console and hit Enter. This will display a list of network configurations.
  3. This command shows information for all network adapters. Under the “Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi” section, you will find information for your wireless connection. Under the “Ethernet adapter” section, you will find information for your wired connection.

NOTE: If you are getting a MAC address to register your device, be sure to use the correct MAC address that corresponds to the type of connection you are trying to use. For instance, if you need to register your device on the wired network, you must use the MAC address found under the "Ethernet adapter" section. For more information on registering devices, see our Connecting Entertainment Devices article.

    Look for:

    • The IPv4 Address for your IP address.
    • The Physical Address for your MAC address.

How to Find MAC and IP Address on an iPhone or iPad

IMPORTANT NOTE: iPhones and iPads use a randomized MAC address by default to enhance privacy. This means the MAC address you see is unique to each specific Wi-Fi network you connect to and is not the device's true hardware address. For most troubleshooting, we need the randomized MAC address.

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the blue circled "i" icon next to the network you are connected to.
  4. On this screen, you will find both your IP Address and the Wi-Fi Address (your MAC address).

To find the true Hardware MAC Address:
On the same Wi-Fi details screen (from Step 3 above), turn off the Private Wi-Fi Address toggle. When you turn this off, your device will display a "Privacy Warning" and will now be using its true hardware MAC address for this network.

How to Find MAC and IP Address on Android

  1. Launch the device’s Settings app.
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the name of the network you are connected to. Alternatively, tap the gear icon next to the network name.
  5. You should see both your device’s IP Address and MAC Address listed under the network details.
