Guide for Epson SureColor P900

Printing in the PEL

Printing can seem overwhelming as there are many small steps to take into account, however you can follow the guides below if you are ever stuck or need some help remembering everything. Please note that there is a difference between printing B&W vs color images. Please make sure you are following the correct workflow. 

 

B&W Printing

1. Open your file in Photoshop. 

2. Crop your image to the desired ratio. This will help keep the borders even if making multiple prints. The example image is cropped to a 3:2 ratio.

3. After your image is cropped, navigate to Image in the tool bar at the top left and select Image Size.

4. Set your image size to your desired print size and change your resolution to 240ppi.

5. Once these changes have been made and the photo is ready to print, click Command + P to open the Printing menu. 

6. Under Printer Setup, choose the following

  • Printer: PEL-SC900-01 - PEL-SC900-04 (whichever printer you would like to print to.
  • Copies: 1 (unless you need multiple of the same image)
  • Layout: choose the orientation that best fits your image on the canvas 

7. Color Management

  • Document Profile: Adobe RGB 1998
  • Color Handling: Printer Manages Colors
  • Normal Printing
  • Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric or Perceptual

8. Description

  • Should just be blank

9. Position and Size

  • If you want your image in the center of the page, check the Center box. 
  • *This is where you should check that your image size if correct*

10. Once this is done, navigate to the top of the window under Printer Setup and click Print Settings. You should see this window once you do.

11. Check that you have the correct printer selected at the top of the window. 

12. The rest of the settings should reflect the information outlined below: 

  • Presets: None
  • Copies: the desired number of prints you need
  • Paper Size: put in the correct size of your paper. The standard size is 8.5x11, but make sure that is correct. 
    • If you are printing an image that you want to have borders, make sure to select US Letter.
    • If you are printing borderless, choose US Letter (Sheet - Borderless, Auto Expand).

13. Settings under Layout should be as follows: 

  • Pages per Sheet: 1 
  • Layout Direction: the first option
  • Border: None
  • Reverse Orientation: off
  • Flip Horizontally: off

14. Settings under Paper Handling:

  • Collate Sheets: Enabled 
    • This setting doesn't change much so you can leave it at it's default enabled.
  • Sheets to Print: All Sheets
    • This will print all of the pages in the document
  • Sheet Order: Automatic
  • Scale to Fit Paper Size: Disabled
    • Destination Paper Size: greyed out
    • Scale Down Only: greyed out

15.To change any of the settings under Printer Options,  click on the "i" icon

16. Color matching should be set to Epson Color Controls.

17. Printer Settings should be as follows: 

  • Media Type: depends on the paper. If you are using photo paper, choose the option under photo paper that best suits the kind of paper you have. 
  • Color: Advanced B&W Photo 
  • Color Toning: Neutral
    • *Note that if you are trying to print a toned B&W print, all color toning should be done in Photoshop and then you should follow the workflow for color printing*
  • Do not enable Black Enhance Overcoat, High Speed, Finest Detail, or Bottom Edge Print Quality Priority.
  • Click OK

18. Page Layout Settings

  • No options to change

19. After this, you can close the dropdown menu for Printer Options and open the dropdown under Printer Info

  • Here you should check that you have the correct printer once more and see if the ink levels are okay to print. If ink is running low, still run the print as the ink cartridges only get replaced once they're empty.

20. Click Save once done. 

21. Check that the image looks to fit the page in your printer preview window and that all your settings are correct. 

22. Print your image. 

 

Color Printing

1. Open your file in Photoshop. 

2. Crop your image to the desired ratio. This will help keep the borders even if making multiple prints. The example image is cropped to a 5:4 ratio.

4. Set your image size to your desired print size and change your resolution to 240ppi.

5. Once these changes have been made and the photo is ready to print, click Command + P to open the Printing menu. 

6. Under Printer Setup, choose the following

  • Printer: PEL-SC900-01 - PEL-SC900-04 (whichever printer you would like to print to.
  • Copies: 1 (unless you need multiple of the same image)
  • Layout: choose the orientation that best fits your image on the canvas

  • Printer Profile: Epson SC-P900_700 Ultra Premium Photo Paper
    • *Printer profile should reflect which paper you plan to use to print. If you aren't sure what profile to select, you can always google what profiles work best for that paper. This profile is what we use for the Epson Premium Lustre Paper 
  • Normal Printing
  • Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric or Perceptual
    • *For more information on what Rendering Intent is, read this article*

17. Printer Settings should be as follows: 

  • Media Type: depends on the paper. If you are using photo paper, choose the option under photo paper that best suits the kind of paper you have. 
  • Color: defaults to Epson PrecisionDot
  • Color Mode: defaults to Off(No Color Management)
  • Print Quality: High Quality 
  • Click OK

18. Page Layout Settings

  • No options to change

19. After this, you can close the dropdown menu for Printer Options and open the dropdown under Printer Info

  • Here you should check that you have the correct printer once more and see if the ink levels are okay to print. If ink is running low, still run the print as the ink cartridges only get replaced once they're empty.
