Large Format Printing on Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and Epson SureColor P7000

Setting up the printer

Turn the printer on and conduct a nozzle check to make sure none of the print heads are clogged.

    • For Epson Stylus Pro 7900 hit Test Print ▶ Nozzle Check ▶ Print.
      • If the results come back with a break in the line, smudging, or a missing color, clean the nozzle heads by clicking Maintenance ▶ Cleaning ▶ and then if multiple colors are affected, click Normal Cleaning. If only one color is impacted, click Clean Color Pairs and select the affected colors.
    • For Epson SureColor P7000 hit ▶ Maintenance ▶ Nozzle Check ▶ OK.
      • If the results come back with a break in the line, smudging, or a missing color, clean the nozzle heads by clicking ▶ Maintenance ▶ Head Cleaning and then either click All Nozzles if multiple colors are affected. If only one is affected, select one of the pairs to clean that specific color.

Configuring Image in Photoshop

  • Once the nozzle heads are cleaned, login to a PEL workstation.
  • Open up your file in Photoshop.
  • It is important to firstly crop your photo. Crop it to the desired ratio for your image. The image below is cropped at a 22x15 since this is the desired image size.

  • Next, click on Image At the top left and select Image Size. Set your image size to the size you would like your image to print at (in this case it's 22x15) at a resolution of 240-300PPI.

Printing Color Images

  • Once your image is sized correctly and edited for printing, hit Command P to open up the printing menu.
  • Make sure to select the correct printer (either PEL-WF01-EpsonP7000 or PEL-WF02-Epson7900).
  • For color prints, you want to make sure you select the correct printing profile by changing Color Handling to Photoshop Manages Colors and then selecting the correct printer profile.
    • We supply Epson Premium Lustre 260 paper for student use and is what is normally loaded in the printer.
      • If using this paper and the P7000 select SC-P9000-P7000_Series_LLK_PremiumLustrePhotoPaper260.
      • If using this paper and the 7900 select Epson Stylus Pro 9900_7900 PremiumLusterPhotoPaper260.
  • Once the Color Handling and Printer Profile are set, scroll down to Normal Printing. Make sure it's set to Normal Printing and that your Rendering Intent is set to Relative Colorimetric or Perceptual. These two option yield the best results.

  • Note: The printer is only capable of printing at a width of 24in. Please keep this in mind while deciding on how to orient your image for printing.
  • It is important to think about how thick you want the borders on your print. With the example image above, the image size is set to 22x15, and the image is cropped at the same ratio.
  • To have an inch border on each side, the paper size needs to be set to 24x17 and all of the margins must be set to 0in.
    • For your own images, if you want an 1in border all around, make sure you add 2 inches to your width and length onto your image size. If you only want a .5in border all around, add 1in to your width and height onto your image size.
  • Once the print size is inputted correctly, hit Ok.
