What is Workday Student?

Workday Student is a cloud-based student information system. It will replace our current student system, Banner, and serve as the central hub for managing academic records, registration, financial information, advising, and more. Designed with modern functionality, it offers a user-friendly experience for students, faculty, and staff to access and manage information anytime, anywhere.

Why are we transitioning to Workday Student?

We’re moving to Workday Student to modernize our systems and better support the Emerson community. This transition isn’t just about replacing outdated technology—it’s about reimagining how we serve students, faculty, and staff.

The Student Modernization Project will:

  • Deliver a seamless, mobile-friendly student experience
  • Streamline processes and reduce administrative work
  • Improve data accuracy for better decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with financial and academic regulations
  • Provide a scalable system that grows with Emerson

When will Workday Student go live?

Workday Student will go live in phases, beginning in fall of 2026 and continuing through February 2027. This phased approach will allow us to transition smoothly and provide tailored support along the way. Specific dates and milestones will be communicated regularly to the Emerson community.

How will Students use Workday Student?

Students will use Workday Student to:

  • Register for classes
  • View and manage their academic records and degree progress
  • Access financial information and pay bills
  • Connect with advisors
  • Update personal information
  • Request transcripts and more

How will Faculty use Workday Student?

Workday’s tools will streamline administrative tasks and enhance the advising and teaching experience.

Faculty will use Workday Student to:

  • Access class rosters and student information
  • Submit grades and attendance
  • Advise students and monitor their degree progress
  • Manage course schedules and syllabi
  • Communicate with students about academic matters

How will Staff use Workday Student?

Workday’s integrated platform will improve collaboration across departments and enhance service to students. Staff will use Workday Student to:

  • Support student services such as registration, billing, and financial aid
  • Manage academic scheduling and course offerings
  • Process student records and transcript requests
  • Provide advising support

How will Parents use Workday Student?

Parents and other authorized users will have access to certain features of Workday Student through delegated access. This delegated access keeps students in control of their information while ensuring parents stay informed. With a student’s permission, they can:

  • View and pay tuition bills
  • Access financial aid information
  • Receive important notifications about deadlines or account activity

What happens to my old student records?

All academic records and data from the current system will be securely migrated to Workday Student. Your past transcripts, grades, and other important records will remain accessible and intact.

What type of training and preparation will I receive before Workday Student goes live?

We’re committed to ensuring a smooth transition. Training materials will be shared in advance of go-live to help everyone feel confident using Workday Student. Training opportunities will include:

  • Hands-on, instructor-led sessions
  • Step-by-step guides and video tutorials
  • Drop-in support sessions

How can I keep up with project communication and updates?

We’ll provide regular updates through:

  • A dedicated Student Modernization Project page with the latest news, timelines, and resources
  • Campus-wide emails and newsletters
  • Department meetings and information sessions
