Compatible SDXC Cards

 

  • You must use an SDXC card to record with any setting
  • SDXC Memory Card Type 
    • 3 UHS Speed Class
    • 10 Speed Class 
    • V90 Video Speed Class
    • 260 MB/s Write speed
    • 300 MB/s Read Speed

  •  Capacity depends on the video resolution and how much you need to film.
    • You can still use a small capacity card if you have a lot to film by having multiple cards or offloading footage often.
  • Using a SDXC card with the properties above, you can expect approximately the following recording times with the following recommended settings:
    • Push the Menu button on the top of the camera -> Select the SYSTEM menu
      Frequency -> 59.94Hz
      Record format -> P2 AVC-G25

Quick Start Guide

 You will need a AG-VBR59 A & B Battery (vended separately by the EDC) & an compatible SDXC card.

First Steps

  • Insert Battery
    • Insert the battery all the way into the compartment as shown in the illustration and press it down until it clicks. The arrow on the back of the battery should be pointing down.

 

  • Turn On
    • Turn the power switch to ON.
      • Press the white power release button and rotate the mechanism down.

  • Powering Down
    • Press the white power release button and rotate the mechanism down.
    • Turn the power switch to Off.
    • Press the Battery release Button and remove the battery by lifting up.

 

 

  • Insert SD card
    • Wait until the SD CARD access indicator (1) is off or is no longer flashing.
    •  Open the card compartment cover (2). 
    • Insert the card straight into the SD card slot until it clicks (3).
      • You can use two cards, one in each card slot.
      • To remove the card, make sure the SD CARD indicator is off and then push the card once to release it. 
    • Close the card compartment cover (4).
      • Do not force the cover closed if the card is not correctly inserted.

  • Formatting SD Cards
  • Lift up the LCD screen to reveal menu buttons!

    •  Push the Menu button on the top of the camera ->  Recording-> Format Media.
    •  Select the desired card Lot.
    • Select [SET].
      • The card is initialized and all the data it contains is erased.

  • Recommended Recording Settings
    • Push the Menu button on the top of the camera -> Select the SYSTEM menu
    • Frequency -> 59.94Hz
    • File Format -> P2
    • Record format -> 1080p 59.94/P2 AVC-G25
  • Shutter Speed

  • First press Shutter Button 
    • Spin the Sel/Push set dial on the left side of the camera. 
    • Spin the dial until the LCD screen till it reads SHUTTER on the monitor 
  • Push in the Sel/Push dial to select Shutter 
  • Spin the dial until you reach your desired shutter speed
    • If we are shooting at 59.94 normal shooting would be 1/120

ND (Neutral Density) Filters:

Adjust ND to Darken your image

  • On the left side of the camera, slide the ND FILTER selector to the desired ND
    filter setting. 
        • Clear has no ND filter and 1/64 is the most intense reduction in light. 
  • White Balance
    • First, make sure the white balance switch is on PRST (Preset) 
    • Under the lens there is the AWB (Auto White Balance) 
      • Pressing the AWB button once, and the camera will choose a white balance for the environment. 
      •  Use the white balance switches to toggle between 3200K and 5600K
          • 3200K: Used for Interiors
          • 5600K: Used for Exteriors

Audio

There are 2 Dual Mini XLR terminals (INPUT), and a built in Stereo Microphone (BUILT IN).

  • Audio settings (audio controls are on the left side of the camera) 
    • This camera has 2 channels with 3 audio input option for each channel.
      • INT: Internal Microphone 
      • INPUT1: The XLR port on the top of camera 
      • INPUT2: The XLR port on the back right of the camera
    • If you have the included shotgun mic in input 1 for the audio type, select +48V (the microphone require extra power)
    • If you are plugging in a lav into input 2 for the audio type, select MIC 

DO NOT GIVE A LAV “+48V” (no extra power needed)

         

 

Adjusting Levels

  • You can manually adjust levels for external microphones on the left side of the camera. 
    • Use the dial to the right of this switch to adjust the microphone input sensitivity.

Headphone Monitoring

  • Plug the headphones into the audio output
  • To adjust the volume, on the top of the camera, use of the Audio MON/ADV plus and minus buttons. 

Lighting

    • Screw the Hot Shoe into the bottom of the light. 
    • Make sure there is a gap at the bottom of the hot shoe and slide the light onto the to section of the handle.
    • Slide the hot shoe on to the mount. 
    • Screw down the tightener on the Hot Shoe so that the light is secure to the camera.

Recording

  • Press the red recording button on the handgrip or on the top handle to Start & Stop recording Playback
  • For Playback, select the Thumbnail button and use the arrows to navigate through the files.  To exit playback while watching a video back, double-click the Thumbnail button.

Troubleshooting Guide

Q: The camera is on, but the image is black. 

 A: The lens hood is down, flip the switch on the back left to the open position

 

Q: The camera is recording, but clips are not recorded or only parts of the clips are recorded.

A:  You are not using a compatible SD card for your recording settings. You can either lower the quality of the recordings or use a higher grade SD Card.

Q: Audio is not recorded.
A: The audio input source is not correctly selected, or a microphone is not connected to the selected terminal.

OR

The external microphone connected to the INPUT 1/INPUT 2 terminal requires phantom power. Set the corresponding INPUT 1/INPUT 2 audio source selection switch to MIC+48V

Tips & Tricks

  • Test your camera build prior to leaving the EDC during your check-out.
  • Do not film in the rain. 
  • If filming outdoors, keep your camera clean and protected from the environment and elements.
    • Put a tarp on the ground if filming in dirt or sand to keep the camera build clean. Dirt & Sand can cause damage.
  • Always include time to build and break down your build, as well as time to offload footage.
  • Remember to return the kit how you received it.
    • A kit lens must be on the camera OR you must cover the camera body with the Body Port Cap and the rear of the lens with a rear lens cap.
    • Batteries may be left in the SIDE case pockets.
