Connect the HTC Vive Focus Vision to the gray USB-C converter box.
Turn on the headset using the back power button. The headset will default into standalone mode. This is the headset operating as its own unit. It is not connected to the computer yet. You will see yourself in a floating living room about the clouds.
The headset will ask you to look around the room to re-establish the safety boundary. If it does not succeed, reset and redraw the boundary according to the tape markings on the floor.
On the VR computer, log into Steam and launch Vive Hub. It should detect a USB connection from the headset.
On the Vive Focus Vision headset: there are multiple methods to transition into PCVR mode:
Method 1: On the Vive Focus Vision, go to your Library. Look at the top right at the toggle: make sure you are on Headset application mode (goggle icon) not PCVR mode (monitor icon). From your applications, launch Vive Business Streaming. This should automatically launch SteamVR on the computer and transition the headset to USB/DisplayPort Streaming.
Method 2: On the Vive Focus Vision, go to your Library. Make sure you are on PCVR mode (monitor icon). We have not connected the headset to the computer yet, so it will prompt us to connect to a computer with a blue button on the bottom right. Press it, select the computer (e.g. LABS-EML-309), then go back to your library. You should see your PCVR applications. Launch SteamVR.
Method 3: On the Vive Focus Vision, unplug and replug the USB-C connection until you get a prompt of choices between File Transfer and Vive Streaming. Select Vive Streaming, ideally Vive Streaming (DP Mode).
On the computer, launch and log into Meta Horizon Link.
Plug in your Meta Quest 3 headset into the computer using a USB-C to USB A (3.0) cable. On the EML workstations, there are available ports on the sides of the Wacom Cintiq monitors.
On the Meta Quest 3 headset: in the lobby/home area, on the bottom menu bar, click on the clock/battery status display (left side of the bar). This will bring up a quick menu with several large buttons. One of them will be labelled Link. Press that button and select the available PC to begin PCVR streaming.
After a few moments of loading, you should find yourself in a white lobby. This means you are in PCVR mode for the Meta Quest 3.
If you are launching your project directly from the computer/hard-drive, then simply re-open your .uproject file as normal.
If you are opening your project from the NAS, make sure to access the NAS/Project_DropOff folder from the mounted drive shortcut or your project will error and not launch.
Going into VR/Virtual Scouting Mode
Make sure the Virtual Scouting plugin is enabled. This plugin is included with Unreal Engine’s installation. Once toggled, you will be prompted to restart Unreal Engine.
Before relaunching the Unreal Engine project, make sure SteamVR is already running, otherwise Virtual Scouting will be unavailable/grayed out until you reopen the project.
With SteamVR (or Meta Quest Link) running and the Virtual Scouting plugin enabled in the Unreal Engine project, you should now see an icon to enable Virtual Scouting mode (Shortcut: SHIFT + V).
Note on Performance: If you find your scene lagging significantly in Virtual Scouting mode, exit out of Virtual Scouting, switch the scene rendering mode from Lit to Unlit. The Viewfinder tool will show your scene rendered as Lit. Otherwise, remain in Lit mode if you are adding/modifying lights and need to see the changes in real-time. If you’re finding that the VR tracking in Virtual Scouting mode is non-responsive even rendered in Unlit mode: close Vive Hub, SteamVR, and Unreal Engine. Restart them back up.
