Production Design On the Paramount Soundstage, we have an assortment of Flats, furniture, props, and various set elements that can be used by classes and productions. Below are the Policies for Sets and Set dressing on the Soundstage, that can also be found in the Policy and Procedure Packet.
- All Props in 410 and Flat Walls are only intended for use on the Sound Stage. Borrowing props or flats for location shoots are not permitted.
- The production is responsible for building the flat set up that they want, and needs to factor in the time and crew needed to do so in their schedule.
- The flats, props, furniture and other set elements are here for your use. You may change the look of a flat, or any set piece, by painting or wallpapering or in any other manner, but those changes and prior arrangements must be made with and approved by the Sound Stage Manager.
- Only Thesis and Capstone Projects are permitted to Wallpaper or Paint Flats.
- If any alteration to any set element does occur then these items must be restored to their original state by the end of your time on the stage.
- Any damage or paint on the floor or walls must be cleaned, repaired and repainted before leaving the Sound Stage. This means for flats and the floor two coats of the standard sound stage paint must be purchased by the production and time must be set aside for its application.
- The floor – Either intentionally or through negligence, if the production gets a significant amount of paint on the floor, the production is responsible for Repainting the Floor.
- Reconstituting the stage or any set elements must be factored into your schedule.
- If you bring props, costumes, or other set dressing onto the Sound Stage, when you will be bringing them in must be arranged ahead of time, and they must be removed at the end of the allotted time on the Soundstage.
- You can only bring and put into our Prop Closet (410) props and set dressings that will be used on the Soundstage during the production. We will not store Props for you for your other shoots off of the Soundstage.
- You are responsible for hauling out and properly disposing of all set elements used on the stage or garbage left over from production at the end of your allotted time.
- The Paramount Sound Stage Manager must approve all large set pieces early in the preproduction process. Requests and Arrangements must be made to use the loading dock and freight elevator at least 3 weeks in advance.
- All set designs must be approved by the Sound Stage manager.
- If flats are created for a production, DO NOT use 2x4, sheet rock or standard construction materials. The flats will be too heavy and pose a safety hazard. Use standard film/theater materials. These materials are lighter and easier to move around.
- Firearms, knives, swords & other weapons are prohibited. If they are necessary for your production, they may be used BUT NEED TO BE FAKE AND HARMLESS. That means made out of Plastic, and cannot actually projectile anything. This can be approved only with prior approval by the Soundstage Manager, your Faculty advisor, Emerson Director of Production Safety, and the ECPD. All standard protocols, which will be outlined by the sound stage manager, must be followed. Failure to get approvals and follow procedure will lead to the termination of the production and prohibit future use of the Soundstage.
