PAINTING PROCEDURES AND POLICIES

 

FLATS PAINTING / WALLPAPER PROCEDURES & POLICIES

  • If the production would like to Paint or Wallpaper the Flats (Set Walls) for their production, it must be approved by the Soundstage Managers ahead of time.
  • Only Thesis/Capstone Projects can paint or wallpaper flats. 
  • The production has to keep in mind the amount of time that they have booked, and what the Parameters of your assignment being completed on the stage entails. The color and/or look of the set walls may not be the priority of the assignment/project. 
  • The Flat walls stored on the Soundstage must be restored to their Standard color at the end of the Production. Flat walls stored in the Prop Closet (410), do not need to be restored. But we are limited on the inventory of those flats, so keep that in mind when planning. 
  • Traditional Wallpaper with paste to apply is not permitted. "Peel and Stick" / "Apartment Safe" / "Contact Paper" wallpaper is preferred.
  • The Production is responsible for scheduling enough time and people to do the painting/wallpaper application and the set build, and painting any Flats back to their original state once the Production is finished. 

PRE-PRODUCTION

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES for Pre-production

  • Plan the size of the Set up and Determine which Flats will be used, and calculate Square Footage needed to paint/wallpaper. 
  • Supply the paint YOU are using to paint the set flats for their production (eg: If you want your set to be Barbie Pink, The production is Responsible for supplying said Barbie Pink Paint)
  • THE SOUNDSTAGE WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
    • Paint Rollers
    • Paint Roller Sticks
    • Paint Roller Covers
    • Paint Brushes(various sizes)
    • Painters Tape
    • Drop Cloths
    • The Standard Grey Paint for our Set Walls
  • Supply Specialty equipment for their flats; e.i. textured rollers, detail brushes, wall paper etc. 
  • If using Wallpaper, the production should ensure they purchased enough wallpaper, and extra. They also should provide their own double sided tape in case the Soundstage does not have enough. 

PRODUCTION

SOUNDSTAGE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • We will provide drop clothes, tarps, paint trays, paint roller, paint roller cover, general paint brushes, buckets, cleaning supplies, tape, scrapers, and cutters. 
  • We have a Paint sink in our equipment cage that can be accessed by the PD department

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES for Production Design

  • Schedule enough time and people to complete the work.
  • Ensure they do not spill, track with their feet, or otherwise mess up the floor with paint. 
  • Once finished painting, they must shake off drop cloths and tarps, sweep the floor, throughly clean and dry paint brushes, rollers, and paint trays. 
  • Build the set. Our Staff will assist and guide if needed, but the Production is responsible for ensuring you have enough crew to handle the work. 

WRAP

SOUNDSTAGE RESPONSIBILITIES for Wrap

  • WE supply the Paint for The Painting Back of Soundstage flats and floor.
    • This includes; the Flats (set walls), the trim, the floor, and the doors.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES for Wrap

  • Deconstruct the Set
  • Physically Painting the flats and floor back to our satisfaction. 
  • Cleaning the supplies in the sink and setting them to dry.
  • Shaking off, folding and putting away the tarps/drop clothes.
  • Cleaning the area around the stage and the cage affected by the painting.
  • Unused paint is poured back into the can, NOT IN THE SINK!
  • Again, this all must be factored into the Production Schedule.
