Setting up: Vive Focus Vision VR Headset

This is a brief guide on how to setup the HTC Vive Focus Vision headset for use within our Suites/Studio as a PCVR headset.

  1. Ensure the Vive Focus Vision is charged and turned on. There is a small round power button on the back-right of the headset, next two four LED lights. These are the battery level indicator. The Vive Focus Vision has a modular/exchangeable re-chargeable headset.
  2. Once the headset has been turned on, take the long USB-C to USB-C cable, ensure it is connected to both the headset (using the L-connector end) and the other into the Streaming Kit, which has a USB-C port. The Streaming Kit should be a small gray box setup on the Suites and is slightly hidden back between the Suites' desk and the computer's black power-rack container.
  3. With the headset on and plugged into the Streaming kit, log into the corresponding workstation.
  4. Launch Steam, ensure you are logged in.
  5. Launch Vive Hub.
  6. Click the gear icon on the top-right of the window. Click Setup Guide.
  7. Go through the guide, select Headset > Vive Focus Vision.
  8. This process will instruct you on how the Streaming Kit should be connected. In most cases, this part is already done beforehand in the Suites. This process will also confirm the graphics card/driver and that the USB and DisplayPort connections are detected.
    • In infrequent cases, if they are not, check to make sure they are plugged into the computer and that the Streaming kit's power supply is also plugged in. Unplug and replug the computer connections and try again. Notify the manager if this is a consistent issue.
  9. Once you have gone through and completed the Setup Guide, go back into the headset and you should see a small gray window with the options for File Transfer, Vive Streaming (DP Mode), and to do nothing.
  10. Ideally, we would want to select Vive Streaming (DP Mode).
  11. If this gray window does not appear, try going through the Setup Guide or unplugging-replugging the L-connector end of the headset cable.
    • Otherwise, try restarting both the computer and the headset.
  12. As back-up, in the headset, go into Settings > Connectivity and select the computer the headset is connected to (i.e. LABS-EML-311, LABS-EML-310, etc). Try reconnecting the headset and going through the Setup Guide. Otherwise, fall back to USB streaming mode (further instructions incoming).
