Using Citrix Workspace

Citrix Workspace allows you to temporarily run select pieces of software without installing them on your computer. It can be accessed in both macOS and Windows via a web browser or by using the Citrix Workspace app. For a list of software made available via Citrix Workspace, please review our Software for Personal Devices guide.  For assistance in opening downloaded SPSS files check our Windows and macOS instructions.

  • If you believe you're missing an app in the Citrix Workspace portal, please reach out to the IT Help Desk. Be sure to include the relevant course code associated with your class, and the application you are unable to see.
  • If you experience unusually long load times or unreasonably slow application performance, please let us know.

Using Citrix Workspace in a browser

  1. Visit emerson.cloud.com
  2. Log in with your Emerson credentials as follows:
    • Domain\user name: emerson\firstname_lastname or firstname_lastname@emerson.edu
      • Important: You will need to add the prefix emerson\ before your username. Please note the specific type of slash (backslash) or your complete email address.
    • Password: Your Emerson password
  3. When you log in, Citrix will ask how you want to access the workspace. To access it within your browser, click Use web browser.

  4. Once logged in, you will need to click on the Favorites tab under Apps and select the application you wish to run.

    • The next time you log in, the application will be in your Recents tab on the main page for faster access.

  5. Once the application loads in a new browser tab, you can use it like a regular desktop application. 
  6. Be sure to Quit the remote application fully when you complete your work.

Using Citrix Workspace as an application

If you are using the Citrix Workspace app in a computer lab, skip to step 5

  1. Visit emerson.cloud.com
  2. Log in with your Emerson credentials as follows:
    • Domain\user name: emerson\firstname_lastname or firstname_lastname@emerson.edu
      • Important: You will need to add the prefix emerson\ before your username. Please note the specific type of slash (backslash) or your complete email address.
    • Password: Your Emerson password
  3. When you log in, click the button to allow the browser to Detect Workspace.

  4. Citrix will then ask you to agree with Citrix License Agreement, check the checkbox, and click Download.

  5. Once the software downloads, install and run it. 
  6. When you run the software for the first time, it will ask you for a server address. Enter emerson.cloud.com and click Add.

  7. Next, the program will ask for your Emerson credentials. See Step 2 above for the appropriate formatting. 
  8. Once logged in, you will need to click on the Favorites tab under Apps and select the application you wish to run.
    • The next time you log in, the application will be in your Recents tab on the main page for faster access.

  9. The application you chose will behave similarly to an application native to your computer. 
  10. Be sure to Quit the application fully when you complete your work.

Opening SPSS files

Faculty members often provide students with files to work on within the SPSS applications. The following steps will help you to open those files after you download them. (Be sure to follow the steps appropriate for your computer: Windows or macOS.)

Note: The process for opening files stored locally on your machine is identical for both the browser version of Citrix Workspace and the desktop application. 

For use with Citrix in Windows

  1. Follow the above instructions (either as a browser or an application) to access the Citrix workspace and open your intended application.
  2. When you open up SPSS, select Open another file... and then click Open. (Alternatively, from the File menu within SPSS, click Open.)

  3. From the Open window, click the dropdown menu and scroll up to the top to see your desktop. Navigate to the folder into which you downloaded or saved your file.

  4. Once you are in the correct directory, select the file and click Open.

For use with Citrix in macOS

  1. Follow the above instructions (either as a browser or an application) to access the Citrix workspace and open your intended application.
  2. When you open up SPSS, select Open another file... and then click Open. (Alternatively, from the File menu within SPSS, click Open.)

  3. From the Open Data window, click the dropdown menu and scroll up to Local Disk. This should show your computer's name directly next to it.

  4. In the folder list that shows up, select Users > "Your User Name" and then navigate to the folder into which you downloaded or saved your file.

  5. Once you are in the correct directory, select the file and click Open.

Opening a Movie Magic Template via the Web Version of Citrix

For this walkthrough we will be opening a new Movie Magic Scheduling template. These basic instructions will work for a Budgeting template as well.

  1. After opening either Movie Magic Budgeting or Movie Magic Scheduling, you will be greeted with the splash screen, where you can start a new template or open an existing one. Click New Schedule.Screen_Shot_2021-02-18_at_6.05.07_PM.png

  3. Next, open the folder MMData. Open up the next folder as well, either MM Scheduling or MM     Budgeting, depending on the application you are using. Screen_Shot_2021-02-18_at_6.05.21_PM.png
