We’re excited to announce that macOS Sequoia is now available for your Emerson-owned computer! After thorough testing, we’ve made the latest macOS release accessible to all faculty and staff. Emerson IT now supports macOS versions Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia and are available through Emerson IT Self Service.
Note: Apple Intelligence will not be available.
Choosing to upgrade will introduce changes to your Mac's interface and functionality. As with all major updates, there is a risk of data loss, so backing up your documents and bookmarks is essential.
To perform an upgrade, you will need to be an administrator on the computer. You can make yourself an administrator by navigating to Applications then opening Emerson IT Self Service and click “Make Current User an Admin”.
For backup instructions, visit our guide on Backing Up Data at Emerson College.
Upgrading
The upgrade process has moved to Emerson IT Self Service, making it easier to complete. After backing up your data, navigate to Emerson IT Self Service, search for the macOS version you’d like to install, and click “Upgrade” to start the process. You will see different dialog boxes and pop-ups during the upgrade. Please ensure your computer is connected to a power source, as the upgrade requires AC power.
Once you click “Upgrade” you will be prompted to enter your Emerson computer username and password.
The next couple of dialog boxes will display the progress of the upgrade and will take about 45 mins to complete, depending on your internet connection.
Troubleshooting
If you don’t see the option to upgrade to Sequoia, please contact the Help Desk.
When upgrading your Mac, you may receive a message prompting you to connect to a power source before continuing. To proceed, plug your Mac into a power outlet and click 'Upgrade' again.
Sequoia in Labs
We are currently testing Sequoia in Boston's computer labs and classrooms in preparation for its rollout in the Fall 2025 semester.
