Overview
When you launch AVID Media Composer for the first time, you may encounter an error message that says "EssentialResouceNotAvailableError". This means that Media Composer is missing a crucial file that enables it to launch properly. In this guide, we're going to replace that file.
Launching Media Composer
The first thing to do is to launch Media Composer and see if the error is present. If the app launches without issue, then you should be fine! No need to continue through the rest of this guide. However, if you're presented with a pop-up window that says "EssentialResouceNotAvailableError", follow the below instructions.
Connecting to SourceBook
With Finder open on your computer, press Command + K or click Go in the top left and connect to a server. Type in the following address:
smb://bin.emerson.edu/courses/editing courses/sourcebook
Once you're connected, you'll see a folder that's tagged in blue called "Avid".
Opening the Application Support Folder
Now, with Finder still open, either press Command + N or click File and open a new Finder window. In the top left of the desktop, click Go and hold down the Option key on your keyboard. You will see a new option appear called Library. Click on this option and open the "Application Support" folder. It should look like this:
Once both windows are open, one to "Application Support" and the other connected to SourceBook, drag the blue-tagged "Avid" folder into application support, being careful that it doesn't land in a different folder. If you see that there is already a folder called "Avid", open that folder as well as the one in SourceBook and drag the deeper folder called "OpenIO" into the folder that is already in "Application Support". The idea here is to replace the file or folder that is causing Media Composer to not launch, however deep it may be.
NOTE: do not move anything else inside the "Application Support" folder or any other folder in the Library! This could damage apps and cause the computer to need re-deploying, which is a larger problem that involves IT.
Relaunching Media Composer
Once you've moved the file into place from SourceBook, relaunch Media Composer. It should start without issue.
