Course tools

Emerson IT provides tools that facilitate learning, whether in the classroom or on your own.

A/V equipment and support

The Media Services team supports classroom audiovisual systems and loans equipment to students in non-production courses as well as for special events. They provide training as well as setup assistance.

The Media Services center is located in Ansin 409.

Instructional technology support

The Instructional Technology Group (ITG) helps faculty integrate technology into their teaching. This includes:

  • Using an online learning management system for your courses
  • Engaging students with online discussions and chat and facilitating real-time collaboration
  • Distance learning
  • Streaming large multimedia files
  • Tailoring a blog for your courses

Contact ITG for individual consultations and follow their blog to stay up-to-date with the latest tips and developments.

Online learning management system

Emerson has a learning management system called Canvas (canvas.emerson.edu) that instructors may use to communicate with students, post course readings, hold discussions, give quizzes, and more!

Faculty, learn how to use Canvas at http://ec1880.us/canvas-faculty
Student guides are at http://ec1880.us/canvas-students

Multimedia sharing

Median is Emerson's home-grown video, image, and audio sharing website. On Median, you can set Emerson-specific access and licensing controls on your uploads, making it ideal for sharing student work or clips for required viewing.

For more on Median, see What is Median?

WordPress blogs for classes and clubs

Another collaborative classroom tool available to instructors is Emerson's Wordpress installation at word.emerson.edu. ITG can assist you in adapting WordPress to your curricular needs by creating blogs, websites, journals, and more.

Student organizations can also host blogs through Emerson's WordPress installation by contacting Web Services.
