What devices does Emerson's wireless support? (Boston)

Emerson's Boston Wi-Fi is encrypted with WPA2-Enterprise, (Or WPA3-Enterprise for 6GHz connections). This means that it's a good deal more complex than your home Linksys router!

You must have an Emerson username and password in order to connect, and your device must support WPA2-Enterprise or WPA3-Enterprise. Keep in mind, WPA2 is different from WPA2-Enterprise!

What can connect to Emerson's Wi-Fi?

  • Any computer that supports WPA2-Enterprise. Some older computers or network cards may not support it, but any modern computer will work fine! If you're in doubt, try searching Google for product name WPA2 Enterprise or contact us and we'll help you figure it out.
  • iOS, Android, and Surface tablets
  • Kindle Paperwhite and newer

What can't connect to Emerson's Wi-Fi?

  • Windows XP and Windows 7! These operating systems are not allowed to connect to our wireless networks as they are no longer supported by Microsoft, and considered a security risk to continue running.

Other devices

To connect Game consoles like Playstation or Xbox, or Smart TVs and Chromecasts ,you'll need to register it to our wireless system first. Then, connect the device to the Emerson Devices wireless network, using the device's password from its registration, and it'll be connected.

Note

Because the device is registered, this means that despite connecting via Emerson Devices, your device will actually be assigned to our Student or Staff, depending on who registered it. For devices like Chromecasts and printers which you will use with your laptop or tablet, you must connect the laptop or tablet to our secure eduroam network, NOT to Emerson Devices. Your registered device will join the same network as everyone else in the dorm, so we suggest setting up any security options your device offers. Also, note that device registration is one time only; it does not require daily renewal.

Game consoles, Apple TV's, and Rokus—anything with an ethernet port—can also be connected via wired ethernet if desired. Read more here about how to set that up!

Supported:

  • Laptops and desktops, running Mac OS 10.5+ or Windows 8+.

  • Gaming consoles (must be registered to obtain a password for Emerson Devices)

Not Supported:
